Just like today 9 years ago I had just reached the safety of Base Camp after climbing Everest – a 9 week journey – and crossing the dangerous Khumbu icefall for the last time.
I like this photo because it captures a mixture of my emotions after having given everything over the previous 9 weeks. Feelings of happiness, relief and sheer exhaustion.
Most of us live our whole lives exploring a narrow band of our true potential. We never know how far we can really go until we try. For me, nature and mountains allowed me to understand myself. What’s your Everest?
Just like today 9 years ago I was descending Everest after having reached the summit 2 days earlier. As some of my friends prepare to make their own summit push today and the next days, I wish them all the luck in the world. Stay safe, stay humble.
